Bohemian Modern: There's No Place Like Home

When you're moving from apartment to apartment it can be hard to make it feel like home; especially when you're working with the budget of a recently engaged entry level worker. There's this tug-a-war between what you know your decor style is, what you can afford and what you have to make work from your compilation of college apartment um... "furniture" and hand me downs from family.

The great thing about the furniture and decor I love is that it's elcectic, a mix match of old and new, of modern and antique. We have some great peices like this old mid century modern faux bamboo dresser (that's in need of a paint job..) and newer peices like our leather butterfly chair and garden stools. Then, there's the IKEA furniture that we love, hell - it's durable, easy to clean, and years from now when we upgrade it'll be perfect for a basement or play room.

Right now, our main focus is of course on our wedding, but I wanted to take a break from those post for the day and talk about what we'd love our apartment, and eventually our first home to look like. Here are some of my favorite homes and decor peices for inspiration:

1. Alaina Kaczmarski's Chicago Apartment

There is so much I love about her place, from her living room hues of gray combined with aztec prints! I love love love the Ankara Pouf she has from Lulu & Georgia and the white antler accent, don't even get me started. I could just move into Alaina's house pretty much. Plus, I want every single little thing she has in her arsenal of kitchen tools (if you ever get a peek of our registry you'll notice...).

2. Jessie Webster's Los Angeles Abode

Leather butterfly chair, aztec rugs, lamb fur throw and modern furniture with the contrast of natural wood; there's just so much to love about this home I would say more but then I'd be typing all day.

3. Kirstin's Simple Grove

I love Kristin's bedroom, from the aztec rug and cow hide throw to the dark accent wall. And, there again is the prevalent modern meets natural wood them. It's just beautiful!

4. SF Girl By Bay's Bohemian Modern Home

Maybe it's the record player or the original art prints splattered on the walls, or maybe it's the texture of the high rugs and throws against the leather furniture, either way it's the perfect mixture of rough and cozy, or hard and soft, I'd live here in a heart beat!

Bohemian Woodland Wedding

I've got a true love for Bohemian / Woodland weddings. They always give off the feel of fairy tale to me, maybe it's got something to do with too much Disney movie's as a child, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White would definitely have a woodland wedding right? Especially with the adorable woodland creatures like owls, deer and bunnies hopping around. Then there's the crown of flowers the bride wears in her hair, kind of like the one you would make from daffodils when you were playing outside as a child. It's like living in a real life fairy tale, and isn't that what weddings are all about?

Here are some of my favorite Bohemian / Woodland weddings. 

1. Julie + Bo's Wedding from Green Wedding Shoes

Favorite things about this wedding: The deer tapestry. Her veil. Her dress change for the reception and the reef of flowers she's wearing on her head. The mitmatched bridesmaid dresses that are a perfect balance of casual meets elegant.

2. Theresa and Jay's Wedding at Atlanta Contemporary Art Center

This wedding isn't as "Woodland" as the others, but the colors, natural green plants and horse mask (that my fiance has already made clear will not be in our nuptials) give it a very organic, free
bohemian" feel. My favorites from this wedding: the farm tables, the natural/ green flowers, the industrial architecture of the venue and the diy ceremony altar.

Wedding Flower Homework: Rustic & Vintage Accents

I've made it to the next step in my wedding planning process, yes, you've guessed it! Flowers. I'm on the lookout for vendors so I figured it would be smart to start doing my homework. I absolutely love rustic and vintage wedding bouquets, but I had no clue what those little green and earthy looking accents were called. Luckily for you I did my homework, so hopefully you don't have to. These are some of my favorite bouquet accents, and the best part is that most of them are for all seasons so you don't have to worry about them wilting in your hot August wedding (like me...).

1. Aged Lotus Pods 
I admit, at first glance these dark brown shell like plants look kind of creepy, but when mixed with a bunch of lush flowers, they create a hard/ soft combo that's a perfect vintage rustic pairing. 

2. Dusty Miller 
These grayish blue leaves couldn't be prettier, and their texture looks great against soft light colored flowers. I would love to have these in my bouquet or in the groomsmen boutineers (like below). They are almost exactly the shade of blue I want in our wedding, so it seem like it's meant to be if you ask me. 

3. Scabiosa Pods 
These pods are adorable, they almost look fuzzy to me, which I love because I want to our flowers to have a mixture of different textures. It also brings in the green accent while still being softer than other natural looking plants like the aged lotus pods.  

4. Succulents 
I love these things, I think they're so pretty, and I like the strange texture they seem to have, almost rubbery. I also think their pale greenish blueish color couldn't be more spot on for what I'd like at my wedding.

Weddings Aren't Easy (And Other First World Problems...)

People who design weddings are awesome, cause it ain't easy.

It may look easy on pinterest. A candle there, a flower here some stationary in the corner and BAM! You're done. But theory is a lot less accurate than the tedious effort and humbling hardships that come with practice.

But alas, our wedding is coming together.

It's like a game of ping pong, a slightly annoying back and forth. Starts in my mind with a great idea, then searching the interwebs to see if it's a possibility. But slowly and surely the picture in my brain is becoming clearer. So, without further adieu, here's one step closer to having the wedding in my head fully realized...


1. Garland, Banners and Kraft, oh my!: I've already mentioned that I love the idea of CD's as wedding favors and I especially love these CD sleeves with the blush pink banner and arrow detail and the green garland adds a rustic touch. I don't know if I'd want our names spelled out or if I'd like it to just say E+K. 

2. Little Brass Figurines: How cute is this owl right? I think figurines would look great as table decor or as part of table centerpieces. Plus, I would totes keep these after the wedding to decorate our house, which is two owls with one stone (get it? owls.)

3. Feathers: Again with the feathers. I like the idea of tying them to the invitations with twine. Cool right? Yeah... I thought so.

4. Invitations: This invitation below is a whole lot of pretty wrapped in rustic with a kick of bohemian. Call it was it is. Awesome. I'd probably get rid of the deer.. cute but not us. But I'd keep the flower and garland detail on the invitation (note it goes well with the CD cover above). I also like the banner detail, but maybe it could go blush (note, CD above... again) and have a feather or two in the twine (note, image directly above). I'm starting to see how the blush, green and kraft go together well, especially when there is white text.

Now that the decor is coming together, I think its time to put a wee bit more focus on the exact wedding colors and the dresses and suits for the bridal party. It is also time to chow down on some cheerios, cause when my financé isn't home for dinner I eat like a toddler.

It's All in The Details

I'm pretty sure I went through every wedding on Snippet & Ink today (where I found all of these images).  I've been trying to hone down on the details.  I think the best option is keeping the decor as clean/ rustic as possible and only incorporating a few boho chic aspects. Anyway, here are some inspiring tidbits I found today:

Kraft envelope with white ink. 

Feather detail with twine. 

Blue suits, not sure if they're midnight blue or slate, but I like them. 

Feather headband. Understated way to bring in the boho theme. 

Beaucoup de Bouquets

I need to hit the nail on the head for what I want as far as details in the wedding. I'm not completely positive about the decor or even the colors... but I think I've gotten pretty close to what I want when it comes to bouquets. My favorites are the ones with blush colored flowers and brown accents like feathers. I want them to be colorful without being too flashy.

Now on the search for more boho-rustic bouquets....

Boho. Rustic. Vintage.

Yes. That's three different styles, and yes that's exactly what I want.

A perfect mixture of rustic vintage with a bohemian twist. I was having a hard time explaining exactly what I wanted it to look like. I told Kevin that I wanted the wedding to look like it went with the things we like and the music that we listen to. He told me he got it. That I wanted the wedding to be like a song.

Knows me better than I know myself. I'm a lucky girl.
